Sponsorship News

Summit Medical and Scientific sponsored a prize for the Best Research Presentation at the Advances and New Developments in Osteoarthritis Meeting held on 1st June 2011 at Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford (www.meditech.cf.ac.uk).  The winning team was a joint presentation on the knee project from the Medical Engineering Research Group at Anglia Ruskin.  The best poster prize was won by Gemma Whattling from the University of Cardiff.

The new ARU MERG Biomechanics Laboratory was officially opened by Howard Hillstrom, Director, Hospital for Special Surgery, New York, USA.

Force and Motion Foundation Scholarships

The Force and Motion Foundation, a non-profit organisation that is fully funded by AMTI, has now issued 22 travel grants in the last 6 months to students who have participated in its online Virtual Poster Session.  For this academic year, the Foundation will be awarding $10,000 scholarships to two graduate students on a competitive basis. Notably, due to US restrictions, applicants for this year’s $10,000 scholarships need to be actively enrolled at a US university but do not need to be a US citizen.

Please visit www.forceandmotion.org to see further details and to look through the Virtual Poster Session and see this valuable resource for students and researchers!

New Products

AMTI has launched its Optima Human Performance System, a major breakthrough in strain gauge force measurement technology, offering a 10-fold improvement over any force platforms system on the market.  Using AMTI's new optimised strain gauge technology, the Optima HPS provides levels of accuracy never before seen in force platform systems.

The GEN-5 USB next generation amplifier is now available.  The GEN-5 has many new features and its release is coupled with the release of AMTI series of “smart platforms” which will have calibration information imbedded in the platforms.  The GEN-5 will read this calibration information and load it into the amplifier calibrations files.

AMTI have developed instrumented swimming starting blocks designed to match the dimensions of the OSB11 starting blocks from Swiss Timing.  Two configurations are possible. Contact us for further information.

AMTI awarded patent for Virtual Soft Tissue Control technology

AMTI has patented* its Virtual Soft Tissue (VST) Control, a revolutionary technology used in its knee wear simulators.  VSTeliminates the need for mechanical springs by using an advanced software model to incorporate the constraining influence of the soft tissue that surrounds the knee.  This allows for the inclusion of nonlinear and asymmetric force displacement characteristics which occur in vivo but cannot be recreated with conventional methods.

* US Patent Number 7823460

Customisation

Did you know that AMTI are able to custom build to your specifications?  This could be force platform size or specifically designed mounting hardware to suit your installation and applications.  Recent custom builds include an OR6-7 platform modified to accept a compliant pole set up for use with primates and an OR6-7 platform with multiple threaded holes added to the top surface of the platform to allow the mounting of various poles for use in a wind tunnel.  We currently have enquiries concerning an instrumented escalator, instrumenting an Aircast boot and instrumenting the foot plate on an exercise device.
